CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Dora Rita Blackburn, 24 Apr 2005 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Dora Rita Blackburn, 82, Hwy. 19E, Hampton, died Sunday, April 24, 2005, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. Mrs. Blackburn was a native of Johnson County and a daughter of the late Robert "Bob" and Leta Stout Grindstaff. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Ilene Gwyn. Mrs. Blackburn attended Watauga Academy, Butler, and East Tennessee State University. She was a retired school teacher, having taught for the Carter and Johnson County school systems. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hampton and a faithful member and Sunday School teacher of the TEL Sunday School Class. Survivors include her husband, Fred B. Blackburn, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Basil and Phyllis Blackburn, Johnson City, and Albert and Tammy Blackburn, Marion, Va.; a daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and Carl Taylor, Johnson City; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Justin "Bud" Grindstaff, Hampton, and Kyle Grindstaff, Flint, Mich.; and three sisters, Dona Jewell Blackburn, Elizabethton, Elsie Clark and Eldona Norris, both of Hampton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Mrs. Blackburn will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Hyder, the Rev. James Archer and the Rev. Haskel Ingram officiating. Music will be under the direction of Larry Pate, soloist. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service. Friends may also call at the residence, 4973 Hwy. 19E, Hampton, at other times. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, April 28, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Those wishing to attend will meet at the funeral home at 10:45 a.m. Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be the Sunday School teachers and deacons of First Baptist Church of Hampton.
