Bowers 4/24/00 Mr. Lawrence E. "Wimpy" Bowers, 77, 804 Exum Street, Johnson City, died Friday, April 21, 2000, at his residence. Mr. Bowers was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Joseph P. and Bessie J. Manning Bowers. He was a World War II and Korean War Army veteran. Mr. Bowers was a member of Keystone Free Will Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Nora Arizona Byrd Bowers; two daughters: Thelma L. Sue Sams and Elizabeth Ann Honeycutt, both of Johnson City; one son, Joseph F. Bowers, Hampton; one brother, Robert L. Bowers, Elizabethton; and five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Appalachian Funeral Home (928-6111), 800 East Watauga Avenue, Johnson City, is in charge of arrangements. BOWERS -- Funeral services for Mr. Lawrence E. "Wimpy" Bowers, 77, 804 Exum Street, Johnson City, who died Friday, April 21, 2000, will be held Sunday, April 23, 2000, at 4 p.m. from Keystone Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Greer officiating. Graveside committal services will be held April 24 at 11 a.m. in Mountain Home National Cemetery. Those planning to attend the committal service are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:50 a.m. Full military honors will be accorded by Kingsport VFW Post #3382. Active pallbearers, who are requested to meet at the church by 3:45 p.m. Sunday, will be Earl Dykes, Gene DeLoach, Ron Street, Wayne Ford, Jim Cooper, Randy Greer, Alvin Zeoli, and Tony Gouge. Honorary pallbearers will be the Masters Men from Keystone Free Will Baptist Church. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2-4 p.m. in the sanctuary of Keystone Free Will Baptist Church.
