Bowers Maynard F. Bowers, 82, formerly of 103 Hatfield Drive, Elizabethton, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, at Ivy Hall Nursing Home following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late Andy and Elizabeth Deloach Bowers. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Johnson Bowers, March 2, 1997, six brothers and three sisters. Mr. Bowers was a member of Valley Forge United Methodist Church and a retired employee of North American Rayon Corp. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Jerry L. and Anne Bowers, Jonesborough; one daughter and son-in-law, Melody and Phil Carpenter; one sister, Pauline Comer, Redding, Penn.; five grandchildren: Tina Brown and Carol Harris, both of Jonesborough; Jerry Lee Bowers, Jr., Charlotte, N.C.; Phillip and Patrick Carpenter, both of Elizabethton; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. BOWERS -- Funeral services for Maynard F. Bowers, 82, formerly of 103 Hatfield Drive, Elizabethton, who died Friday, will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, with Mr. Hugh Hatfield, minister, the Rev. Randy Johnson and the Rev. Lon Tobin officiating. Music will be under the direction of Trilla Little and Linda Baughman. Graveside service and interment will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 14, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with the Rev. Lon Tobin officiating. Active pallbearers will be Ronnie Crowe, Danny Tolley, Stacy Street, Keith Brown, John '"'Boot'"' Allen, Dennis Berry, Chad Carpenter, and Jeffery Carpenter. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. David Fenner, John D. Snyder, Buddy Little, J.L. Winter, Tim Hinkle, Sam Harrison, George Greene, Jr., Conway Hopson, Carter Blevins, Raymond Hill, Steve Chambers, Buster Honeycutt, Grady Hill, Charles Culler, Mike McCoy, Billy Cole, Jim Troutman, Dennis Woodring, Joe Gregg, Sammy Harris, men of Valley Forge United Methodist Church, friends and neighbors. A special '"'thank you'"' from the family to Dr. David Fenner and staff, Judy Deloach and staff of Ivy Hall Nursing Home. The family will receive friends at the home of the daughter, Melody Carpenter, 103 Hatfield Drive, Elizabethton, any time.
