Bowers, 77, 618 Linden Avenue, Elizabethton, died Wednesday, August 1, 2001, at his residence after a brief illness. Mr. Bowers was a native of Carter County and the son of the late John and Maggie Taylor Bowers. Mr. Bowers was of the Baptist faith and was a former employee of East Tennessee Chair Company. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, having served in World War II. Survivors include his wife, Hilda Grindstaff Bowers, of the home; a daughter, Roxanna Bowers, Washington, D.C.; a son, James Bowers, Mountain Home; a sister, Ophelia Burleson, Elizabethton; a brother, Howard Bowers, Rogersville; and a granddaughter, Stephanie Bowers, Washington, D.C. Bowers, 77, 618 Linden Avenue, Elizabethton, who died Wednesday, August 1, 2001, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, August 3, at Mountain Home National Cemetery with the VA Chaplain officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the Captain Lynn H. Folsom VFW Post #2166. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 9:55 a.m. Friday for the graveside service. Friends may call at their convenience on Thursday, August 2, between 12 noon and 5 p.m. at Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel.
