Bowers Ira Luther Bowers, 86, Danner Road, Elizabethton, died Tuesday, May 14, 2002, at his residence. Mr. Bowers was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Monroe and Ada Robinson Bowers. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Eula Novella Crumley Bowers, in 1983, and four grandchildren, Linda Buckles Brown, Ricky Buckles, Shirley Bowers and Barbara Bowers. Mr. Bowers was retired from the Cafeteria Department of North American Rayon Corporation. He was the Oldest Member of Hunter Memorial Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Nell Lethcoe, of the home, and Joyce and Cleveland Buckles, Elizabethton; a grandson, Randy Buckles; and two great-grandchildren, Jacob Buckles and Brent Buckles. Also surviving are his special friends at Nanny's Restaurant. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. BOWERS -- Funeral services for Ira Luther Bowers, 86, Danner Road, Elizabethton, who died Tuesday, May 14, 2002, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, May 17, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Eric Wright and the Rev. James Hawk officiating. Music will be provided by the Hunter Memorial Baptist Church Choir, Patsy Childress, soloist, and Dean Palmer, soloist. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 18, in the Buckles Cemetery. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, will be Reggie Scalf, Herman Crumley, Harold Lowe, Gordon Holly, Lawrence "Beardy" Holly, Kenneth Nave, Landon Campbell and Lemmie Taylor. Honorary pallbearers will be the Senior Adult Sunday School Class of Hunter Memorial Baptist Church, his church family, Guy Ford, Robert Lethcoe, Jack Kyte and his neighbors. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence.
