CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Luther Bowers, 6 Jul 2002 ----¤¤¤---- Luther Bowers Luther Bowers, 77, formerly of 1957 Dave Buck Road, Johnson City, died Saturday, July 6, 2002, at Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon, Va., following a brief illness. Mr. Bowers was a native of Carter County and the son of the late John Arthur and Mary Nidiffer Bowers. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Bonnie Ada Myers Bowers; his second wife, Fronie Blevins Ballard Bowers; his stepmother, Sallie Bowers; two brothers, Floyd Bowers and Clifford Bowers; and three sisters, Josie Hyder, Mae Smith and Juanita Bowers. Mr. Bowers was an active member of Pleasant Beach Baptist Church and a retired supervisor with Hoover Ball Division in Erwin. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in World War II. Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Denise and Randall Blevins, Elizabethton, Terri Scott, Bluff City, and Sherry and John Graybeal, Elizabethton; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Lynn and Karen Bowers and Chris Bowers, all of Elizabethton; a special stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Susie and Coy Lane, Elizabethton; four stepsons and stepdaughters-in-law, Wade and Carolyn Ballard, Buff City, Dale and Patricia Ballard, Fairfield, Pa., Ray and Teresa Ballard, Elizabethton, and Ron and Natasha Ballard, Okinawa, Japan; two sisters, Hildred Bowers and Ceola Bowers, both of Elizabethton; and a brother, Grover Bowers, Elizabethton. Bobby Stout and the Rev. Mark Lundy officiating. Music will be under the direction of Dean Pulmer. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 10, at Highland Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be James Bowers, Shawn Bowers, Trampus Bowers, Howard Jewett, J.C. Honeycutt and Gordon Lewis. Honorary pallbearers will be Grover Bowers, Harold Wayne Bowers and the residents and staff of McVey's Rest Home of Abingdon, Va. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home.
