CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Cora Belle Bowers, 24 Jun 1957 ----¤¤¤---- Obituary appeared in the Tuesday, June 25, 1957 Elizabethton Star Mrs. Cora Belle Bowers, 614 N. Pine Street, died in the St. Elizabeth Hospital Monday at 4 p.m. after a brief illness. She was 78, and was a native of Carter County and a life-long resident. Mrs. Bowers was the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth Myers Large, prominent pioneer families of this section. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Bowers, in 1930, and was a member of the First Baptist Church. Survivors are three sons, Harry Bowers, 1210 Burgie Street; Paul Bowers, 309 G Street, William Bowers, Sr., Rt. 7; one brother, George Large, Elizabethton; eleven grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren also survive. Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Funeral services for Mrs. Cora Belle Bowers will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. from the chapel of the Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Rev. W.W. Ward, Dr. David Livingston and Rev. Ray Brown officiating. Music will be under the direction of Lawrence Jones, Hardin Brothers Quartet and Lewis Garrison. Burial will be made in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Bill Bowers Jr., Charles Bowers, Arthur Bowers, Kelly Sharp, Glen Davis, Dr. D.E. Bowers, George Smith, Herman Colbaugh. Flower bearers will be the granddaughters and the following friends. Mrs. Sue Butler, Mrs. Ethel Hollars, Mrs. Pauline Hodge, Ms. Herman Hampton, Mrs. Minnie Percy, Miss Addie Percy, Mrs. John Nidiffer, Mrs. B.A. Lipford, Jr., Mrs. Claude Harrell, Mrs. Luster VanDyke, Mrs. Eddie Matherly, Mrs. Mattie Fair, Mrs. Lou Crosswhite, Mrs. May Fair, Mrs. John Denny, Mrs. Frank Potter, Mrs. Annie Bowers. The body will remain in the chapel and the family will receive their friends in the chapel of the Funeral Home.
