Boyd, 84, Ruby Avenue, Elizabethton, died Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at the James H. Quillen Veterans Medical Center Hospital following an extended illness. Mr. Boyd was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Charlie and Gertie Grindstaff Boyd. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ella Mae Froedge Boyd, October 27, 1986, a daughter, Mary Boyd, a sister, Louise Stafford, and a brother, Luther Boyd. Mr. Boyd was of the Baptist faith and was a retired electrician in construction work. He was a member of Hampton Masonic Lodge #750 F&AM and a Shriner. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served in World War II. Survivors include two daughters, Jennie Walls, Johnson City, and Donna Stout, Mansfield, Ohio; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruby Little, Memphis, and Mable Wolfe, Elizabethton; and a brother, Erbie Boyd, Long Island, N.Y. Boyd, 84, Ruby Avenue, Elizabethton, who died Wednesday, May 8, 2002, will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, May 10, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with the Rev. Darrell Holly officiating. Masonic services will be conducted by Hampton Masonic Lodge #750 F&AM following the funeral service. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 11, at Caldwell Springs Cemetery with Military Honors accorded by the Captain Lynn H. Folsom VFW Post #2166. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends attending the graveside service. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 9:55 a.m. Saturday for the graveside service. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home. Those who prefer in lieu of flowers may make donations in memory of Mr. Boyd to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, S.C. 29605.
