A native of Avery County, N. C., he was the son of the late Elisha and Hester Freeman Briggs. Mr. Briggs was a retired employee of the Bemberg Corporation and was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church, He was preceded in death by a brother, John Briggs, and by his sister, Mrs. Molly Street. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Hulda Thomas Briggs, of the home; three sons, Rev. Clate William Briggs, Jr., Rt. 2, Elizabethton, Jerald Briggs, Suitland, Md., and Joel Briggs, White Plains, Md. ; and four sisters, Mrs. Mattie Carrico, Adrian, Mich., Mrs. Mary Hodge of Elizabethton, Mrs. Bertha Blevins, Hickory, N. C., and Mrs. Pearl Trent, St. Paul, Va. Six grandchildren, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive . Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements. BRIGGS - Funeral services for Clate William Briggs, Sr., 74, 702 Fifth St., Elizabethton, who died Saturday afternoon, will be conducted at I p.m. Wednesday from the Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, with Rev. Edd Davis and Rev. Winford Floyd officiating. Music will be under the direction of the Light of Life Trio. Interment will follow in the Thomas Cemetery, Birchfield Creek. , Minneapolis, N. C. Active pallbearers will be Rev. Clate William Briggs, Jr., Jerald Briggs, Joel Briggs, Austin Thomas, Lambert Thomas and Tommy Thomas. The family will receive friends in the Riverside Chapel from 7 until 9 p.m. Tuesday and at the residence, 702 Fifth St., Elizabethton, at any time. Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.
