CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Fred Lewis Broyles, 26 Dec 2004 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Fred Lewis Broyles, Circle Dr., Elizabethton, died Sunday, December 26, 2004 in the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Henry Comer and Nellie Ruth McGee Broyles. He was a former co-owner of Tom and Fred's Garage. Following retirement, he was employed by Austin's Garage for a number of years. Mr. Broyles was a member of the Harmony Baptist Church, but attended First Free Will Baptist Church of Elizabethton where he was a member of the Darold White Sunday school class. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Survivors include his wife, Erma Peters Broyles; a son, Terry Broyles, Elizabethton; two sisters, Norma Sheffield, Elizabethton, and Edith Scalf, Watauga; seven brothers, Conley, Preston, Raymond, Floyd, Dewey and Haskel Broyles, all of Elizabethton, and Burl Broyles, of Abingdon, Va. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 28, 2004 in the First Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Greer, Rev. Phil Poston and Rev. Elmer Carter officiating. Graveside services and burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 29, 2004 in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from members of the Darold White Sunday school class. The family would like to express a special "thank you" to the doctors and staff of the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. The body will be moved to the church at 2 p.m. Tuesday where friends may call at any time. To those who prefer, memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Broyles to the Building Fund, First Free Will Baptist Church. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday to go to the cemetery. Condolences to the Broyles family may be e-mailed to mfc@chartertn.net.
