CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Clyde E. Broyles Jr., 7 Mar 2005 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Clyde E. Broyles Jr., 77, Carter Blvd., Elizabethton, died Monday, March 7, 2005, at Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness. Mr. Broyles was a native of Washington County and a son of the late Clyde E. Broyles Sr. and Alice Fitzgerald Broyles. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Sue Mitchell Broyles, a brother, Harold Broyles, and a sister, Gladys Broyles Ellis. Mr. Broyles was a member and former elder of First Christian Church, Elizabethton. He was the former owner and pharmacist of City Drug Store and former owner of Elk Avenue Gallery and Framing, Elizabethton. He was a graduate of Science Hill High School, Johnson City, and attended University of Tennessee-Memphis for one year. He graduated from University of Mississippi with a bachelor's degree and Doctor of Pharmacy degree. In addition, he was a part-time pharmacist at Union Prescription Shop. Mr. Broyles was an active participant in his community. He was a member and past-president of the Elizabethton Kiwanis Club, a former member of the Board of Directors of Milligan College, and a former board member of the East Tennessee Christian HomeElizabethton. He was active with the Elizabethton Chamber of Commerce for many years. Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Johnson Whitehead Broyles, of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Mark M. Broyles and Tim and Janie Broyles, all of Elizabethton; two stepsons and a stepdaughter-in-law, Randy and Amy Whitehead, Hampton, and Rick Whitehead, Elizabethton; two grandchildren, Mitch Broyles and Luke Broyles, both of Elizabethton; and a stepgrandson, Corey Whitehead, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Broyles will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with Mr. Brent Nidiffer, minister, officiating. Music will be under the direction of Gene Estep. The committal and entombment service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 10, in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Everyone will meet at the Mausoleum at 9:55 a.m. Thursday. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service. Active pallbearers will be Gary Simerly, Tony Ellis, Mike Cox, Kenny Carter, Jim Anderson and Leonard Febuary. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men's Class of First Christian Church, former employees of City Drug Store, employees of Union Pharmacy, members of the Elizabethton Kiwanis Club, friends and neighbors at Cove Creek Campground, Harold Ellis, Harold Lingerfelt, Doug Davis and Larry Calhoun.
