Brumit Pauline Ann Brumit, 96, 2316 Eagle Drive, Elizabethton, died Wednesday, July 26, 2000, at Johnson City Medical Center after a brief illness. Miss Brumit was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Dan and Rebecca Smith Brumit. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Ruby Mooney, Laura Brumit and Hattie Moore Butler, and two brothers, Lawrence Brumit and Luke Brumit. Miss Brumit was the oldest attending member of First Baptist Church of Elizabethton. She was a graduate of Elizabethton High School and received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Carson-Newman College, Jefferson City, and a Master's Degree from Columbia University, New York. She did Post Graduate Work at Peabody College, University of Minnesota. Miss Brumit was a lifelong educator with a career of 45 years. She was a teacher in the Elizabethton City and Carter County School Systems and served as elementary schools supervisor for the Tennessee State Department of Education. She retired from East Tennessee State University in 1967. Pauline had served in many leadership roles including: Field Secretary of the State Parent Teacher Association, Chairman of the Elizabethton City School Board, Past President of the Democrat Women's Club, Past President of the Business and Professional Women's Club, and Past Regent of the Julius Dugger Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also a member of the Johnson City and Elizabethton Book Clubs. Miss Brumit was inducted into the Tennessee Teachers Hall of Fame in 1995 and the Elizabethton City Schools Educators Hall of Fame in 1996. Survivors include two sisters, Mary Brumit, of the home, and Katherine Hendrix, Johnson City, and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great- nephews. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. BRUMIT -- A memorial service for Pauline Ann Brumit, 96, 2316 Eagle Drive, Elizabethton, who died Wednesday, July 26, 2000, will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday, July 28, at First Baptist Church of Elizabethton with Rev. Brent Seals and Mr. Tim Ross officiating. John Bunn will provide the music. Interment services will be private in the Highland Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Patrick Sweeney, Pat Sweeney, Jim Magill, Dan Hendrix, Skip Hendrix, Dustin Hendrix and Dan Conner. Honorary pallbearers will be John Tucker, Todd Tucker, Marvin Lackey, Jack Foster, Kyle Chambers, Roy Hampton, John Hathaway, Bruce Shipley, Dr. T.P. Cruz, Dr. Paul Thur de Koos, Dr. Nicholas Burik and a longtime friend, Donna Netherland. Friends may call at the residence.
