CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Hazel Buck, 9 Apr 2005 ----¤¤¤---- Mrs. Hazel Buck, 74, Jim Elliott Road, Elizabethton, died Saturday, April 9, 2005, at her residence. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Lucy Winters Strickland. She was a graduate of the Cranberry High School, Elk Park, N.C. Mrs. Buck was a retired employee of the Thomasville Furniture of Johnson City. She was a member of the Hampton Free Will Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by three brothers, J.D., Alvin and John Strickland. Survivors include her husband, Howard B. Buck; a daughter, Lucy Smith, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Benny and Sharon Buck, Elizabethton; two grandchildren, Nicholas Buck, and Lance Cpl. David Smith with the United States Marine Corps stationed in Iraq; a sister, Helen Riley, Chesterfield, Ind.; four brothers, Ed Strickland, Elizabethton, Aldon Strickland, Elk Park, N.C., Pat Strickland and Earl Strickland, both of Roan Mountain; several nieces and nephews; also her dog, Brutus. Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday in Memorial Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Jack Roddy officiating. Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music will be provided by Bill Jennings and Tina McClaskey. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, will be Gary Sheffield, Nicholas Buck, Jim Jenkins, Eddie Abshire, Roger Smith and Larry Shell. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Tester, Andy Strickland, Richard Strickland, Leslie Head and Dr. Robert Schubert. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Friends may also all at the residence. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday to go to the cemetery.
