Buckles Sr. KINGSPORT -- John W. Buckles Sr., 80, died Saturday, November 25, 2000, at Wexford House, after an extended illness. Mr. Buckles was a native of Carter County and came to Kingsport in 1950 with Pet Dairies, Inc., where he worked for over 20 years as assistant manager. He was self-employed from 1972-1990 as a food broker. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Chief Petty Officer. Mr. Buckles was a member of the Kingsport Optimist Club, United Commercial Travelers, Kingsport Masonic Lodge #688, Order of the Eastern Star, and a 32nd Degree Shriner with Jericho Temple. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Training Union Director for several years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Freda Colbaugh Buckles, in 1994, his parents, Clyde Buckles Sr. and Ida Anderson Buckles, and by three brothers. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Harold Smith, Cleveland, Tenn.; two sons and a daughter-in-law, John Jr. and Linda Buckles, Kingsport, and Jerry Buckles, Gray; a granddaughter, Jacqueline Buckles, Kingsport; and two brothers, Clyde Buckles Jr., Kingsport, and Charles Danner, Nashville. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport, is in charge of arrangements. BUCKLES -- Funeral services for John W. Buckles Sr., 80, of Kingsport, who died Saturday, November 25, 2000, will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, November 27, at Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby Russell officiating. Masonic services will be conducted by Kingsport Masonic Lodge #688 following the service. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 28, at Washington County Memorial Gardens (Boones Creek) with American Legion Hammond Post #3 in charge. Pallbearers will be Ed Ferguson, Roger Warner, Albert Lay, T.W. McDonald, John Colley, Archie Pierce, Earl Feathers, George Hawkins, Charles Hunley, Bobby Heck, Richard Rosenbaum, Raymond Gallion, Calvin "Bo" Colbaugh and Keller Hutton. Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Temple Baptist Church. Friends may also call at the residence of his son, John Buckles, 669 Suffolk Street (Preston Forest), at any time. Memorial contributions may be made to the Northeast Tennessee Alzheimer's Association, 207 North Boone Street, Johnson City, Tenn. 37601.
