Burrough Jack D. Burrough, 78, 1314 Bristol Highway, Elizabethton, died Friday afternoon in the Ivy Hall Nursing Home following a lengthy illness. He was a native of Carter County and a son of the late H.M. and Mamie Chambers Burrough. He was preceded in death by his wife, Freddie Harrell Burrough, two sisters: Jeana Vinters Dugger and Thelma Holland; a brother, Hobart (June) Burrough; and three infant brothers. Mr. Burrough was a member of the Borderview Christian Church, a member of the Watauga Masonic Lodge, a York Rite Mason, and a member of the Jericho Shrine Temple. He was the former owner and operator of Betsy Floral Shop, Elizabethton, and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Linda Sue and Tony Elliott, 195 Fitzsimmons Road, Elizabethton; five brothers: John Burrough, Carl Burrough, Steve Burrough, all of Elizabethton; James (Jim) Burrough, Watauga; and Walter (Bud) Burrough, Lewisville, Texas; four sisters: Ruth Proffitt, Elizabethton, Norma Warren, Watauga; Faye Laflamme, Las Vegas, Nev., and Grace Cassell, Salina, Kan.; one sister-in-law, Georgia Sluder, Elizabethton; three brothers-in-law; Bill Harrell, Hortence, Ga.; Ed Harrell, Rincon, Ga.; and Dayton Harrell, Elizabethton; one aunt, Josephine Mottern, Texas; and several nieces and nephews. Burrough, 78, 1314 Bristol Highway, Elizabethton, who died Friday, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home with Mr. David Wolfe, minister, officiating. Interment will follow in Happy Valley Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the service hour. Music will be under the direction of Ray Don Markland. Active pallbearers will be Danny Ray Elliott, Bobby Joe Fair, Tom Warren, Nat Proffitt, Edward Haney, and Ray Don Markland. Honorary pallbearers will be Ed Harrell, Bill Harrell, Dayton Harrell, Don Tetrick, Bill Tetrick, Richard Tetrick, past and present employees of Betsy Floral Shop and friends and neighbors.
