CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Roy J. Burrow, 10 Jun 2003 ----¤¤¤---- Roy J. Burrow Roy J. Burrow, 82, Lowe Street, Elizabethton, died Tuesday, June 10, 2003, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center Hospital following an extended illness. Mr. Burrow was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Brown and Minnie Fair Burrow. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Frances Burrow, December 28, 1997, a brother, Gene Burrow, and three sisters, Leona Hodge, Edna Pope and Mary Kate Johnson. Mr. Burrow was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church of Elizabethton. He was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation and a member of the Elizabethton Elks Lodge. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He also retired from Tennessee National Guard. Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Larry and Pat Burrow, Elizabethton, and Lee Burrow, of the home; a granddaughter and spouse, Kim and Ed Howat, West Lafayette, Ind.; two great-grandsons, Tyler and Drew Howat, both of West Lafayette, Ind.; and a brother-in-law and spouse, Bud and Marie Deloach, Elizabethton. Burrow, 82, Lowe Street, Elizabethton, who died Tuesday, June 10, 2003, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, June 13, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with the Rev. Phil Poston and the Rev. Elmer Carter officiating. Active pallbearers will be R.L. Hambrick, Donie Julian, Ralph Bowers Jr., Tim Lewis, Jim Bishop, Randy Decker, John R. Campbell, Gary White, Harold Carver and Dennis Berry. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Ellie Alverrites, Dr. David Jones, the Staff of Johnson City Medical Center and James H. Quillen VA Medical Center Hospital and Ken Wickwire. Those who plan to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Friday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home.
