Byrd GREER, S.C. -- John Alfred Byrd, 77, 301 Bailey Road, Greer, died Saturday, March 10, 2001, at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Mr. Byrd was a native of Elizabethton, Tenn., and a son of the late John Lewis and Celma Pauline Byrd. He was also preceded in death by a brother, James Byrd. Mr. Byrd was a member of the First Baptist Church of Greer and was a retired employee of Bi-Lo. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. Survivors include his wife, Yong Ae Byrd, of the home; two daughters, Dorothy Hutto, Aiken, and Faye Honeycutt, Hampton, Tenn.; two brothers, Frank Byrd, Johnson City, Tenn., and George Byrd, Elizabethton, Tenn.; and a sister, Nora Bowers, Johnson City, Tenn. Four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services and interment were held Tuesday, March 13, in Greer. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, Upstate Counties Upstate Chapter, 310 B. Bennett Center Drive, Greer, S.C. 29651. The Wood Mortuary, Inc., 300 W. Poinsett Street, Greer, was in charge of arrangements.
