CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Hartley I. Byrd, 11 Aug 2002 ----¤¤¤---- Hartley I. Byrd Hartley I. Byrd, 70, 5474 Highway 19E, Hampton, died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002, at his residence. A native of Carter County, Mr. Byrd was a son of the late William McKinley and Millie Grindstaff Byrd. He was preceded in death by a sister and a brother. Mr. Byrd was owner and operator of Byrd's Tire Service. He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. Mr. Byrd was a member of Hunter First Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Alma Hill Byrd; two daughters and one son-in-law, Shilia Tolley, Hampton, and Patricia and Russell Munday, Hampton; one son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Sherry Byrd, Roan Mountain; one stepdaughter and her husband, Wanda and Wayne Williams, Elizabethton; one stepson, Harold Hill; Hampton; one sister, Irene, of North Carolina; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. BYRD -- Funeral services for Hartley I. Byrd, 70, 5474 Highway 19E, Hampton, who died Sunday, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. L.D. Berry officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Oak Hill Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday will be Jonathan Hardin, Danny Williams, Russell Munday, Dennis Hyder, Bobby Street and Leo Meredith. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Friends may also call at his residence or the residence of a daughter, Patricia Munday, 901 Fairview Road, Hampton. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday to go to the cemetery. VFW Post 2166 will conduct military graveside honors.
