Campbell Bobby Gene Campbell, 73, 168 Howard Lipford Drive, Elizabethton, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, December 9, 2006, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following a brief illness. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Horace and Goldie DuVall Campbell. Mr. Campbell was a member of Beck Mountain Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict, and was retired from Kennametal, Inc., following 20 years of service. He loved working 3-D Puzzles, and thoroughly enjoyed growing vegetables which he would always gladly give away to friends and family. Bobby Gene was known by all to be a general handyman who could fix nearly anything. In addition to his parents, Mr. Campbell was preceded in death by a sister, Edna Baker, and a brother, Edward Campbell. Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 52 years, Veronia June Arnett Campbell, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Debra Ann and Ralph Miller of Johnson City; a grandson, Justin Heath Miller of Johnson City; two brothers, Louis Campbell of Hampton and James Campbell of Orlando, Fla.; and three sisters, Dorothy Lee Backus and Loretta Gail Creager, both of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Sue Arnett of Largo, Fla. Several nieces and nephews also survive. A Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Campbell will be held at 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 12, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Blevins and Rev. Ronnie Campbell officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service. Friends may also call at the residence, 168 Howard Lipford Drive, Elizabethton, other times. A graveside service and interment will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 13, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Fine Bethana Gouge Fine, 85, 2003 Waters Edge Drive, Johnson City, formerly of Elizabethton, passed away Sunday, December 10, 2006, at Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late Sherman and Tami Stevens Gouge. Mrs. Fine had worked as a lunch room supervisor for the Carter County School System, and had also volunteered at the Sycamore Shoals Hospital for many years. Everyone knew her as being a passionate Bingo player. Beth dearly loved her grandchildren and thoroughly enjoyed every moment she was able to spend with them. She was of the Baptist faith, and had most recently been attending services at the Wellington Place Assisted Living Center where she was a resident. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Fine was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Fine Jr., and a special brother-in-law, L.B. Young. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Gena and Paul Frye of Piney Flats; a son, Robert Steven Fine of Johnson City; three grandchildren, Preston and Jordan Frye, both of Piney Flats, and Garth Fine of Johnson City; a sister, Geneva Young of Johnson City; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Mac and Martha Gouge of Johnson City and Rudolph and Carolyn Gouge of Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. A memorial service for Mrs. Fine will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, December 12, in the Sunset Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home with Rev. Laura Rasor and Rev. Mack Houston officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday immediately following the service in the funeral home chapel. A private graveside service will be conducted at an earlier time at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Maze Harold Edward Maze, 79, of Cold Springs Road, Mountain City, passed away Sunday, December 10, 2006, at Johnson City Medical Center. Harold was born on February 17, 1927, in Dante, Va., to the late John Wesley and Junie May Maze. Mr. Maze was member of the Johnson County Rescue Squad for 36 years and had served as director, school bus driver for 15 years and a farmer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the 1st Calvary in the Korean War, receiving a Silver Star. He was a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and secretary. In addition to his parents, Mr. Maze was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Mason, a sister-in-law, Janie Maze, and a brother-in-law, Ralph Cunningham. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Betty Wilcox Maze; three daughters, Sandra Keene and husband Jack, Karen McNeil and husband Tom, all of Elizabethton, and Heather Maze of Mountain City; two sisters, Thelma Shull and husband Bill and Margaret Cunningham, all of Mountain City; three brothers, Charles Maze, Wiley Maze and wife Lois, and Junior Maze and wife Sue, all of Mountain City; four grandchildren, Kendra Kumm and husband Wayne, Whitney McNeil and Kelsey McNeil, all of Elizabethton, and MacKenzie Maze of Mountain City; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Chester Reece, Joe Parker, Jerry Mahala, Terry Thompson, Joel Icenhour, Milburn Icenhour and his buddy Checkers. Swanner Leonard Matthew Swanner, 70, of Elizabethton, died Saturday, December 9, 2006, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Thomas and Mary Swanner. Mr. Swanner was retired from Thomasville Furniture Company, Johnson City, and served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, Mr. Swanner was preceded in death by a sister, Magdalene Tolley, and a great-grandson, Robert Handy Jr. Survivors include his companion of 38 years, Betty Sue Ward; two daughters, Teresa Guinn of Elizabethton and Tammy Handy of Johnson City; two sons, Larry Dean Guinn and Ricky Guinn Sr., both of Elizabethton; and four sisters, Emma Jean Morton and Olive Miller, both of Elizabethton, Ina Beatrice Meyer of Johnson City and Ethel Peters of Hickory, N.C. Eleven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive. "MomMom" Oliver, 79, 137 Daniel Lane, Elizabethton, died Wednesday, December 6, 2006, at her residence following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, she was a daughter of the late B.J. and Easter Hicks Baumgardner. Mrs. Oliver graduated from Elizabethton High School as valedictorian of the class of 1947. She was self-employed as a seamstress and attended Horseshoe Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Oliver was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Oliver, a son, Larry "Butch" Oliver, and her brothers and sisters. Survivors include a grandson, Scott Oliver, and a great-grandson, Scotty Oliver II, both of Elizabethton, and special friend, Teresa Stevens, Johnson City. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The graveside service for Mrs. Oliver will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, December 9, at Teague/Oliver Cemetery, Hampton, with Rev. Ronnie Campbell officiating. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late A.O. and Daisy Smith Buckles. Mr. Buckles was a graduate of Unaka High School and a former employee of Levi Strauss of Elizabethton. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin and Casandra Buckles, Kelly and Carrie Buckles and Jack and Jodi Buckles, all of Elizabethton; five grandchildren, Aaron, Zachary, Joshua, Madisyn and Brayden; a sister, Phyllis Arnold of Elizabethton; a brother, Troy Buckles of Elizabethton; and one aunt, Mrs. Katherine Buckles Reed of Greeneville. "Frank" Constantine Sr. Francis Anthony "Frank" Constantine Sr., 79, 643 Golf Course Drive, Elizabethton, passed away at 5 a.m. Wednesday, December 6, 2006, at his residence following an illness of six months. Mr. Constantine was a native of Morristown, N.J., and the son of the late James Thomas and Elizabeth Sauseline Constantine. He married his wife, Pasqualina "Pat" Montelpare Constantine, on June 3, 1950. He came to Elizabethton in 1970 with his family and became the Plant Manager of Tri-State Container Corporation. He was the Plant Manager for 22 years until his retirement in 1992, at which time the company was known as Inland Container. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church. Mr. Constantine loved to play golf and was a member of the Elizabethton Golf Course where he had served on the board for many years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served in Guam and Saipan. He was preceded in death by his son, Francis Anthony "Frank" Constantine Jr., June 14, 1984. Mr. Constantine was a devout family man and loved all of his family, especially his wife, children and grandchildren, very much. He is survived by his wife, Pasqualina "Pat" Montelpare Constantine, of the home; three daughters, Patricia and her husband Richard Hunnell, Jan and her husband Ron Malezis, and Mrs. Virginia Treadway; one son, Robert Constantine and his wife Darlene; five brothers, James, Robert, Edward, Charles and David Constantine; one sister, Jane Batoff; one half brother, Scott Constantine; three half sisters, Denise Constantine, Terry Knowles and Cathy Cicale; two step-brothers, Kevin Conner and Larry Conner; one step- sister, Louise Teerik; 11 grandchildren, Candida, Matthew, Aarron, Anne, Jessica, Mark, Benjamin, Stephanie, Robert, Jacob and Alex; two great- grandchildren, Madison and Cooper; and a special former daughter-in-law, Penny Constantine. The Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Constantine will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 9, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church with Father Dennis Kress and Father Gerard Finnucane officiating.
