Carden Clifford D. "Red" Carden, age 80, 219 High Street, Hampton, went home to be with his Lord Sunday, April 30, 2006, at his residence following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Lovie and Emma Teague Carden. Mr. Carden was a member, an inactive deacon, former Sunday school director, and former Sunday school teacher in the youth department of Union Baptist Church, Hampton. He led Carden's Bible Study at Northeast Correctional Facility for 14 years and taught in the Big "A" Club at Hampton First Baptist Church. Mr. Carden served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Jean Campbell Carden, on Feb. 28, 1999, and four sisters, Arlene Campbell, Goldie Lewis, Ressie Lewis, and Lois Estep. Survivors are three daughters and three sons-in-law, Karen and Kenneth Heaton and Rebecca and Terry Brumitt, all of Hampton, and Teresa and Dennis Woodring, Johnson City; one son and daughter-in-law, Ronald Carden, Sr. and Rose Marie, Hampton; seven grandchildren, SFC Ronald Curtis Carden, Jr., David Brumitt, Kevin Heaton, Jason Brumitt, Kim Moore, Leah Thompson, and Kara Heaton; seven great-grandchildren; five sisters, Evelyn Lewis, Elizabethton, Lovie Belle Heffernan, Taylors, S.C., Jessie Keller, Elizabethton, Emily Payne, Kingsport, and June Scott, Aubertown; and one brother, Clyde Carden, Redding, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews. The graveside service for Mr. Carden will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 3, in Union Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Haskel Ingram and the Rev. Mike Hyder officiating. The eulogy will be delivered by Rebecca Brumitt, daughter. Those attending are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:55 a.m. Wednesday. The family will be available following the service for friends to express condolences. Friends may also call at the homes of Karen Heaton and Rebecca Brumit. Active pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Carden Bible Study Group, Northeast Correctional Facility. A special thank you is extended from the family to the doctors and nurses of VA Medical Center Hospital.
