Carter Blaine Westley Carter, 78, 133 Crickett Lane, Elizabethton, died Monday, December 19, 2005, at his residence. Mr. Carter was a native of Carter County and a son of the late C.C. and Lillian Maude Ellis Carter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jane Shipley Carter, in 1989, and a sister, Naomi Carr. Mr. Carter was a retired employee of the Bemberg Corporation and a member of Borderview Christian Church. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael D. and Vickie Carter and Richard Lynn Carter, all of Elizabethton; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Ann and Larry Guinn, Elizabethton; a brother, Darrell Carter, Elizabethton; a sister, Murrell Turbyfill, Watauga; four grandchildren, David Keith Guinn and his wife Melissa, JoEllen Guinn Rasnick and her husband Stephen, Michael Westley Carter and Sarah Kaitlin Carter; and five great- grandchildren, Chelsea, Jacob, David, Ashley and Joseph. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Carter will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 20, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Kirk Langston, minister, officiating. Music will be provided by Scott Reynolds, organist. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 21, in the Vaughn Cemetery. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:40 a.m. Wednesday, will be Keith Guinn, Stephen Rasnick, Gary Kemp, Rick Slagle, Ronnie Guinn, Eric McKeehan, Terry Banner and Wade Johnson. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Friends may call at his residence, 133 Crickett Lane (formerly Old Lacy Hollow Road), Elizabethton. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:40 a.m. Wednesday to go to the cemetery. Condolences to the Carter family may be e- mailed to mfc@chartertn.net.
