Chambers James Kirk Chambers, 73, 710 E. Second Street # 223, Elizabethton, took the hand of Jesus, Saturday morning, Oct. 8, 2005. A native of Carter County, he was the son of the late William B. and Hattie Birchfield Chambers. Mr. Chambers was retired as a pipe fitter for General Motors in Flint, Michigan after having lived in Michigan for 25 years before returning to Elizabethton. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Local Pipefitters Union #1292 in Grand Blane, Mich. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sylvia Hardin. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Jean Aris Chambers; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy and Tom McLaughlin of Elizabethton and Cherie Ann and Cory Ward of Watauga; one son and daughter-in-law: James "Jim" and Regina Chambers of Elizabethton; five grandchildren, Keisha Honeycutt, Kendra Honeycutt, Amber Ward, Summer Ward and Dylan Honeycutt; a special nephew, Bobby Chambers; one sister and brother-in-law, Mary Sue and Al Gordon of Elizabethton; one brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Mary Chambers of Telford; nieces, Donna Odette, Debbie Stewart; nephews, Jerry Hardin and Chris Chambers; a special friend, Shawn Markwood. Funeral Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10, 2005, in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Truman Ferguson and the Rev. Ronnie Reece officiating; graveside and interment will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Happy Valley Memorial Park with Dr. Kenneth Jordan officiating. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral chapel at 9:30 a.m. Monday, will be Dexter Perkins, Keith Perkins, E. J. Blevins, Bill Cothran, Chris Chambers, Ronnie Reece, Shawn Markwood, Rob Chambers and Chris Stewart. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday prior to the service hour. Friends may also call at the residence of his son, James Chambers, 438 H. Heaton Road at any time. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral chapel at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday to go to the cemetery. The family would like to express a special "thank you" to Sam Whitecomb and Hospice and the 5200 wing of Johnson City Medical Center.
