Mr. Chappell was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Thomas Edward and Delia Willis Chappell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Albert June Chappell, and his sister, Mary Stout. Mr. Chappell was a concrete mason and attended Pleasant Beach Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Yvonne Patterson Chappell, of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Paula and Aaron Holderness of Gray and Delores and Greg Tester of Elizabethton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy and Angie Chappell and Rickey and Jennifer Chappell, all of Elizabethton; and 10 grandchildren, Delia Taylor, Gregory Tester II, Layla Blevins, Jonathan Gentry, Joshua Tester, Jerry Chappell, Jessica Chappell, Amanda Chappell, Hannah Chappell and Rikki Chappell; four step-grandchildren, Trey Dennis, Jenipher Dennis, Jessica Holderness and Chrystal Holderness. Six great- grandchildren also survive. The funeral service for Mr. Chappell will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday, October 9, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton, with the Rev. Bobby Stout officiating. Music will under the direction of Geraldine Younce and the Pleasant Beach Quartet. The family will receive friends in the funeral chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, prior to the service, and at the residence at other times. The graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 10, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Those wishing to attend the graveside service should meet at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Gregory Tester II, Mark Taylor, Brian Taylor, Jerry Ray, Denny Patterson and Steve Stout. Doug Hartley will be honorary pallbearer.
