Quillen VA Medical Center following an extended illness. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late John Colbaugh Sr. and Gladys Steffey Colbaugh. Mr. Colbaugh was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church of Elizabethton and had worked as a mechanic for North American Rayon Corporation. He served with the U.S. Army as Sgt. Major, serving in Korea, Desert Storm and Desert Shield. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three infant siblings; a brother, Bob Colbaugh, and a sister, Janette Colbaugh. Survivors include his wife, Thelma Cardwell Colbaugh, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Christopher Allen and Trudy E. Colbaugh of Elizabethton; a very special granddaughter, Cameron Harvest Colbaugh of Elizabethton; three brothers, Tom Colbaugh of Erwin, Ted Colbaugh and Roy Colbaugh, both of Elizabethton; and three sisters, Louise Street, Christine Carriger and Faye Colbaugh, all of Elizabethton. The funeral service for Mr. Colbaugh will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, June 29, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, with Rev. Phil Poston officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, prior to the service. The graveside service and interment will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 30, in the Colbaugh Cemetery. Those attending are welcome to meet the family at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Captain Lynn H. Folsom VFW Post No. 2166. Active pallbearers will be Bobby Colbaugh, Benny Colbaugh, Randy Colbaugh, Larry Street, Walter Carrier, Floyd Nave, J.P. Pritchard and David Harris. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Feathers, Robert Eicher, Johnny Street, Robbie Carriger, Bud Cullop and Gerald Hardin. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make donations to First Freewill Baptist Church Building Fund, 706 First Street, Elizabethton, TN 37643.
