Collins Selbert E. Collins, 81, Johnson City, died Tuesday, May 22, 2007, in the James H. Quillen VA Nursing Home. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late John Newton and Myrtle Range Collins. He was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation after 41 years of service. Mr. Collins served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a lifetime member of Watauga Masonic Lodge #622. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Collins was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Laura B. Collins, Nov. 8, 2004; by four sisters: Ruth Berends, Mildred Watson, Mary Elizabeth Presley and Lela Mae Bohn; two brothers, Clifton Lee Collins and John Bell Collins; and two infant sisters and two infant brothers. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Richard Sutphin, Johnson City; a son, Larry Collins, Johnson City; three grandchildren, Kristia Townsend, Jason Kyte and wife, Chrystie, and Ricky Sutphin; four great- grandchildren, Bradley Townsend, Dylan Townsend, Nathan Kyte and Gavin Sutphin; one sister, Wilma Kitzmiller, Johnson City; one aunt, Nellie Pospiech, Inverness, Fla.; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in the National Cemetery, Mountain Home, with the Rev. Reece Harris officiating. Burial will follow the service. Active pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Thursday will be, Robert Detrick, Stan Haralson, Steve Street, David Brown, Jason Kyte, Bradley Townsend, Mike Hughes and Ray Chesser. Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Lyons, Greg Hughes, Robert Farmer, David Brown, Frank Mosley, Jimmy Johnson, Roger Winters, George Susong and members of Watauga Masonic Lodge #622. The family would like to express a special "Thank You" to the staff and residents of the VA Nursing Home. Military graveside services will be conducted by V.F.W. Post 2166. A Masonic Memorial Service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home by Watauga Masonic Lodge #622. Friends may call at the residence of his daughter, Brenda Sutphin, 137 Vanderbilt Drive, Johnson City. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Thursday to go to the cemetery.
