Conley Gerry Conley, 83, of Wake Forest, N.C., passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2007. Born in Carter County, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late William and Hettie Williams Johnson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dock Conley, a brother, Howard Johnson, and a great- granddaughter, Emma Dillow. Mrs. Conley was a member of Clark Street Baptist Church where she belonged to the Ladies Volunteer Sunday School Class and was also a prayer chain member. A 1942 graduate of Hampton High School, she was employed by North American Rayon Corporation and the Hampton Post Office. Her grandchildren were most important in her life as was her church. She enjoyed woodworking. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Jeff Dillow of Wake Forest, N.C.; three brothers, Jim Johnson of Elizabethton, J.E. Johnson of Cleveland, Ohio, and Harry Johnson of Hampton; three granddaughters, Minoka Dillow of Chapel Hill, N.C., Sarah Dillow and Murphy Dillow, both of Wake Forest, N.C.; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, June Dills, Mary Leonard, Lloyd Maye, Sam and Leitha Grogg, Gertrude Frazier, Jim and Carol Blevins and Dorothy Davenport. A Celebration of Life service for Mrs. Conley will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 18, in the Sunrise Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Services with Rev. Mike Anglin officiating. The committal service will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. The family will receive friends in the funeral chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. Pallbearers will be chosen from family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Clark Street Baptist Church, 200 Clark Street, Johnson City, TN 37604 or Grace Haven Baptist Fellowship, P.O. Box 1432, Wake Forest, NC 27588.
