Frankie M. Cornett 





    Frankie Mona Cornett, 82, of Elizabethton, died Sunday, July 30, 2006, at 

Johnson City Medical Center. 





    A native of Avery County, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Floyd and 

Elda Ollis Benfield. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 

her husband, J.M. Cornett, in 1990, a son, James Mitchell Cornett, and a 

daughter and son-in-law, Betty Jean and Glen Williams. 





    Mrs. Cornett had lived most of her life in Elizabethton. She was a retired 

employee of North American Rayon Corporation and was a Nurses' Aide, having 

worked at Memorial Hospital and Bristol Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Cornett was 

also associated with her husband in the operation of J.M. Cornett Plumbing. 

She was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church of Elizabethton. Her 

hobbies included quilting, crafts and taking care of her grandchildren. 





    Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Wayne Deloach 

and Elizabeth Ann and Johnny Vines, all of Elizabethton; a son and daughter-in-

law, Danny and Debbie Cornett, Elizabethton; two sisters, Norma Lee 

Vanderstin, of New Jersey, and Pauline Greer, Elizabethton; a brother, Berline 

Benfield, Atlanta, Ga.; eight grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. 

Several nieces and nephews also survive. 





    Funeral services for Mrs. Cornett will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday, 

August 1, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Steve Burleson and the Rev. 

Gary Deloach officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. 

Wednesday, August 2, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers, who 

are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, will be 

Greg McKinney, Daniel Cornett, Johnny Vines, Johnny E. Vines, James Robertson, 

Benny Benfield and Ashley Greer. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 

p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at her residence. 

Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday 

to go to the cemetery. Online condolences to the Cornett family may be e-
