CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Jessie Willard "Bill" Campbell, 31 Dec 2004 ----¤¤¤---- Jessie Willard "Bill" Campbell, 87, Shook Branch Rd., Hampton, died Wednesday, December 31, 2003 in the Johnson City Medical Center. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Christopher Columbus and Callie Caroline Pierce Campbell. He attended the Cardens Bluff Elementary School and graduated in 1934 from Elk Mills High School. He was employed for 40 years at the American Bemberg Corporation where he was known as the "Owl Man". He was also a retired carpenter. He was a charter member of Union Baptist Church. Mr. Campbell was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II having served in the Battle of the Bulge. He received two bronze stars. He was a charter member of the disabled American Veterans Chapter #17, Elizabethton. Mr. Campbell was a 60-year Mason, a charter member of Hampton Lodge #750 F&AM, beginning his Masonic career in 1943 in the Dashiell Masonic Lodge #238, Elizabethton. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason, being a member of the Knoxville Consistory, Scottish Rite Bodies, Knoxville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Maxine Johnson Campbell who died December 28, 1991; by a grandson, Vonell Chris Cable and a sister, Esther Nave, who died in 2003. Survivors include two daughters, Andrea Beth Campbell and Pennye Darlene Cable, both of Hampton; one brother, Hyder A. Campbell, of White Pine, Tenn.; one grandson, William Martin Cable, of Hampton, and one great granddaughter, Callie Cable. Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Saturday, January 3, 2004 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Haskel Ingram officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 4, 2004 in the Tippett-Johnson Cemetery with the Rev. Bobby Stout officiating. Music will be provided by Ann Stepp. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the cemetery at 1:50 p.m. Sunday will be Marty Cable, Dale Cable, Terry Lewis, Gerald Ward, Gary Cable, Ray Cable, Jackie Cable and Andrew Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be friends and neighbors. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence of his grandson, Marty Cable, 175 Shook Branch Rd., Hampton. Hampton Masonic Lodge #750 will conduct a memorial service following the funeral service Saturday night. VFW Post #2166 will conduct military graveside honors.
