CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Max Richard Campbell, 31 Dec 2004 ----¤¤¤---- Max Richard Campbell, 73, Long Hollow Road, Elizabethton, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, at his residence. A lifelong resident of Carter County, he was a son of the late John B. and Mattie Range Campbell. Mr. Campbell was a graduate of Happy Valley High School, where he was a member of the 1950 basketball team that won the state championship under Coach John Treadway. He was a graduate of Tennessee Polytechnical Institute, Cookeville, where he received a B.S. degree in agriculture science. Mr. Campbell was a retired manager of the ETSU Post Office. He was an officer in the 102nd Airborne Division during the Korean Conflict, having served in the US Army. He was a lifelong member of the Big Spring Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by a son, Dr. Walter Harvey; and three brothers, Vane, Lewis and Selba Campbell. Survivors include his wife, Marion Polk Campbell; a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Linda Harvey, Jacksonville, Fla.; four grandchildren, Erica Smith and her husband, Brian, Hannah Lee Harvey, Sean Richard Harvey and Olivia Harvey; one great- Grandson, Noah Steven Smith; a sister, Alma Ruth Cox, Elizabethton; a brother, Gene Range Campbell and his wife, Carrie, Greenville, S.C.; several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday in Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Clay Bailey and Mr. Bob Allen, ministers, officiating. Graveside service and interment will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Music will be provided by Scott Reynolds, organist. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, will be Sean Harvey, Brian Smith, Steve Campbell, Justin Clifton, Kenny Clifton and Mike Lingerfelt. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence.
