CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Joseph Powell "J.P" Campbell, 26 Jun 2005 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Joseph Powell "J.P" Campbell, 76, formerly of Division Street, Elizabethton, died Sunday, June 26, 2005, at Pine Ridge Care Center following an extended illness. Mr. Campbell was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Dan and Sallie White Campbell. Mr. Campbell was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and retired due to disability from North American Rayon Corporation after 31 years of service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Jean Campbell, July 22, 1991; a daughter, Judy Campbell, December 19, 1990; a granddaughter, Jessica Nicole Perry, in 1980; a brother, Roy Campbell; and four sisters, Marie Hatley, Arabell Potter, Emmer Taylor and Opha Green. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, JoAnn and Richard Gray and Sherry and Terry Leonard, all of Elizabethton; three grandchildren, Angel Cordell, Elizabethton, Bonnie Jo Crowder and spouse Paul, Erwin, and Thomas Marion Gray III, Elizabethton; two great-grandchildren, Jayden Laroche, Elizabethton, and David Crowder, Erwin; a brother, E.C. Campbell, Elizabethton; two sisters-in-law, Christine Smith, Piney Flats, and Martha Stout, Charlotte, N.C.; and two brothers-in-law and their spouses, Rev. Earl Campbell Jr. and wife Faye and Jack and Bea Campbell, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service for Mr. Campbell will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Owens. Music will be under the direction of a grandson, Thomas M. Gray III, guitarist. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 29, at Caldwell Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Those who plan to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday to travel in procession to the cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Thomas Marion Gray III, Chad Perry, Paul Crowder, Jackie Campbell, Jason Campbell, Ed Campbell, Ronnie Taylor and Wayne Campbell. Honorary pallbearers will be all the other nieces and nephews. A Thank You is extended to the staff of Pine Ridge Care Center, Dr. Stephen May and Frieda Angel Carrier for all their love and special care shown to Mr. Campbell and his family. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service.
