Quillen VA Medical Center Hospital, Mountain Home, after a brief illness. Mr. Canter was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Jessie F. and Cordelia Hinkle Canter. He was also preceded in death by a son, Terry Max Canter. Mr. Canter was of the Baptist faith and was an iron worker. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict. Survivors include his wife, Charlotte C. Berry Canter, of the home; two sons, Larry Canter and Hunter Canter, both of Elizabethton; a grandson, Dustin Canter, Elizabethton; two brothers, James H. Canter, Gate City, Va., and Edward Canter, Elizabethton; five sisters, Jettie Beryl Street, Anna Belle Woods and Leona Gentry, all of Elizabethton, Jeanette Elliott, Thomasville, N.C., and Jayne Coleman, Cordova, Tenn.; an aunt, Frances Cunningham, Nashville; and a special aunt, Blonnie Hicks, Elizabethton. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Private graveside services for Mr. Canter were conducted Friday, July 6, in the Buckles Cemetery, Elizabethton, with the Rev. Bobby Stout officiating. Music was provided by Jon Shell, bagpiper. Military Honors were accorded by the Captain Lynn H. Folsom VFW Post #2166.
