Carden Herbert Hoover Carden, 72, 433 Willow Springs Road, Elizabethton, died Tuesday, August 14, 2001, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. Mr. Carden was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Rhudy and Lottie Bowers Carden. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Arthene Carden, September 28, 2000. Mr. Carden had made his home with his daughter for the past year. He was a former employee of Tennessee Chair Company and retired from the Carter County School System as a custodian at Unaka High School and Hunter Elementary School. He was a member of the Old Horseshoe Free Will Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Penny and Preston Rosenboro, Bristol; a sister, Eliza Bowers, Elizabethton; two grandchildren, Ashton Rosenboro and Jayden Rosenboro; and a special friend, Ella Louise Nidiffer. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. CARDEN -- Funeral services for Herbert Hoover Carden, 72, 433 Willow Springs Road, Elizabethton, who died Tuesday, August 14, 2001, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, August 17, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Edd Davis and the Rev. Larry Garland officiating. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 18, in the Old Horseshoe Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, will be Steve Collins, Clinton Williams, Ernie Bowers, Sherrill Bowers, Millard Bowers, Fayne Bowers, Harold Bowers and John Shattuck. Honorary pallbearers will be Clarence Oliver, Henry Calloway, Bill Smith and Kevin Richardson. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence of his sister, Eliza Bowers, 108 Tokibe Street, Elizabethton. Family and friends will assemble at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. Saturday to go to the cemetery. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
