CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Edith E. Carden, 1 Oct 2004 --------------¤¤¤¤¤¤-------------- Edith E. Carden, 80, of Elizabethton, died Friday, October 1, 2004, at her residence. Mrs. Carden was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late John T. and Julia Price White. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James L. Carden, October 4, 1980, three brothers, Spencer White, R.L. White and Paul White, and six sisters, Rose Baxley, Tean Pierce, Fannie Smith, Irene White, Mae McNeil and Roxie Wolfe. Mrs. Carden had been a Stanley Products Dealer for more than 40 years. She was a member of Doe River Baptist Church and a member of Hampton #470 Order of Eastern Star. Her favorite hobbies were crocheting and quilting. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Marvin and Mary Carden, Elizabethton; a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Jack VanDyke, Elizabethton; three sisters, Joyce Odom, Roan Mountain, Peggy Lewis, Hampton, and Dorothy Jacobs, Elizabethton; a brother, Joe White, Hampton; seven grandchildren, Jamie Carden, Morristown, Amy Bowers, Fred VanDyke, Carrie VanDyke, Christi Pope and Cheri VanDyke, all of Elizabethton, and Jason Carden, Okinawa, Japan; three great-grandchildren, Chase Carden, Morristown, Caleb Bowers and Chloe VanDyke, both of Elizabethton; and one step-great-grandson, Bryceon Sheffler, Bristol. Funeral services for Mrs. Carden will be conducted at 8 p.m. Sunday, October 3, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Rev. Willie Lunsford and Pastor Bobby Stout officiating. Graveside services and interment will be at 11 a.m. Monday, October 4, at Butler Memorial Cemetery. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Monday, will be Jack Whitehead, John G. Lewis, Buddy Street, Roosevelt Carden, M.C. Campbell, Otis McNeil and Johnny Lovelace. Honorary pallbearers will be his church family and Bill Odom. Also included are her special friends, Patsy Mullis, Irene Campbell, Marie Smith, Ethel Hinkle, Ireland Johnson, Ruth Glover and all of her special nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at her residence.
