CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - John Carriger Jr., 20 Apr 2004 ----¤¤¤---- John Carriger Jr., 79, Byrd Street, Johnson City, died Tuesday, April 20, 2004, at James H. Quillen VA Medical Center Nursing Home. Mr. Carriger was a native of Carter County and the son of the late John Carriger Sr. and Nola Nave Carriger. Mr. Carriger was of the Free Will Baptist faith. He was a retired supervisor from Thomas Products after 22 years of service and was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II. Survivors include his wife, Dovie Ward Carriger, of the home; a son, John B. Carriger, Johnson City; a grandchild, Kourtney Carriger, Johnson City; a sister, Frances Jones, Elizabethton; a special niece, Nancy Thomas, Johnson City; several other nieces and nephews; and special friends, Sam and Helen Harrison, Elizabethton. The funeral service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, April 23, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with the Rev. D.C. Byrd and the Rev. Gary Whitehead officiating. Music will be under the direction of Sunset Free Will Baptist Church Youth Choir. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, prior to the funeral service. Friends may call at the residence, 101 Byrd Street, Johnson City, any time. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 24, at Roselawn Memory Gardens with full military honors to be accorded. Active pallbearers will be John Henson, Clyde Moore, Sam Harrison, Carl Harrison, Conley Williams, Glen Bowers, Charles Bowers and James Keen. Honorary pallbearers will be Phill White, John Durst and Carroll Billheimer. Those who plan to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Saturday to go in procession to the cemetery.
