Mr. Carr was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Lee and Belle Lyons Carr. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Edel Carr Sams; six brothers, Arvy, Jess, Arline, Andre, Paul and Silas; a stepson, Sam Bowers II; and a granddaughter, Julie Seymore. Mr. Carr was a decorated World War II U.S. Army veteran, Staff Sergeant and Squad Leader, Army 6th Division, in New Guinea and the Philippine Islands. He was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation, after 41 years, and a member of East River Park Christian Church, where he served as a deacon. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Eunice Parlier Bowers Carr, of the home; a son, Jerry Lee Carr, Elizabethton; three daughters and a son-in-law, Judy Carr Seymore, Rocky Mt., N.C., Karen (Carr) and Mark Gilmore, Kernersville, N.C., and Kristi Carr, Annapolis, Md.; two step- daughters, Bobbi Bowers Range-Leonard, Kingsport, and Wilda (Bowers) and Edward Newman, Columbia, Md.; a sister, Viola Carr Culbert, Knoxville; seven grandsons, Ronald Range Jr., Richard Range, Sam Bowers III, David Newman, Joe Tipton Jr., Jonah Seymore and Alex Carr; and three step-grandchildren, Kim Buck, Josh Gilmore and Sara Gilmore. Smith and Mr. Joel Stauffer, ministers, officiating. Music will be under the direction of John and Mary Smith and Lavelle Fair. Interment will follow at Mountain Home National Cemetery with Military Honors accorded by the Captain Lynn H. Folsom VFW Post No. 2166. Active pallbearers will be Jack Honeycutt, Clyde Buckles, John Rominger, Norman McDiffitt, Marvin Parlier and Rollin Chase. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Men's Sunday School Class and the elders and deacons of East River Park Christian Church, Dick Parlier, Archie Parlier and Dr. Melvin Willis. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, January 24, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home.
