Carter Sr. Bruce E. Carter Sr., 80, of Life Care Center of Elizabethton, formerly of the Lynn Valley Community, died Wednesday, September 27, 2000, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center Hospital, Mountain Home, following a brief illness. Mr. Carter was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Frank and Lucy Estep Carter. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mona Mae McQueen Carter, April 21, 1962, two sisters, Charlotte Jackson and Zelma Crawford, and two brothers, Ray and Bronson Carter. Mr. Carter was a member of Siam Baptist Church. He was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation and a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, serving in the 3rd Army under General Patton. He was a life member of the Captain Lynn H. Folsom V.F.W. Post #2166. Survivors include a daughter, Linda Carter, Mt. Juliet; a son and daughter-in-law, Bruce Jr. and Susie Cable Carter, Elizabethton; four grandchildren, Mona Carter, Casper, Wyo., Brian Chad Carter, with the U.S. Army, Kevin Myhand, Nashville, and Eric Carter, Elizabethton; three great- grandchildren; three brothers, Clarence "Bounce" Carter and George Carter, both of Elizabethton, and Bob Carter, Johnson City; and two sisters, Nell Gagliano, New Orleans, La., and Ruth Howell, Johnson City. Carter Sr., 80, of Life Care Center of Elizabethton, formerly of the Lynn Valley Community, who died Wednesday, September 27, 2000, will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday, September 29, 2000, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, with the Rev. Jack Roddy and the Rev. Ron Owens officiating. Music will be under the direction of Patty Eggers, soloist. Interment will follow in the Vaughn Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men's Sunday School Class of Siam Baptist Church, Allen Goodwin and Austin Goodwin. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the home of his son, Bruce Carter Jr., 2380 Siam Road, Elizabethton, any time.
