Chesser Mrs. Ethel J. Chesser, 88, 2022 Sherwood Drive, Johnson City, formerly of the Big Springs Community, Elizabethton, died Thursday, May 10, 2001, at Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness. Mrs. Chesser was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late James "Jimmy" and Loma Taylor Jones. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Bailey Chesser, in 1959, and three brothers, Fred Jones, Dana Jones and Roger Jones. Mrs. Chesser was a former employee of North American Rayon Corporation with 10 years of service. She was a member of Gap Creek Christian Church. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Harley Ferrell, Johnson City; a brother, Frank Jones, Elizabethton; a sister, Zella Stout, Elizabethton; two grandchildren, Mikki Ferrell Wright, Johnson City, and Kelly Ferrell Price, Gray; three great-grandchildren, Logan Cassidy Wright and Meredith Baileigh Wright, both of Johnson City, and Madison Smith, Gray. Chesser, 88, 2022 Sherwood Drive, Johnson City, formerly of the Big Springs Community, Elizabethton, who died Thursday, May 10, 2001, were conducted at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, with Mr. Hugh Hatfield, minister, officiating. Music was under the direction of Dick Wright, soloist, and Barbara Wright, organist. Graveside services and interment will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 13, at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Mr. Palma Bennett officiating. Active pallbearers will be Steve Wright, DeWayne Price, Tony Meredith, Rick Meredith, Anthony Lyons and Eddie Taylor. Honorary pallbearers will be Peggy Harrah, Jill Morton, Dr. Frank Johnson, Fred Stout, James "Jimmy" Jones, Gene Jones, Fred Jones Jr., Danny Jones, Dawson and Sandy Grindstaff. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 2:30 p.m. Sunday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service.
