Chambers Earnest G. Chambers, 85, 232 Coal Chute Road, Elizabethton, died Thursday, December 20, 2001, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center Hospital following an extended illness. Mr. Chambers was a native of Carter County and the son of the late Henry W. and Callie Deloach Chambers. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Jewell Adams Chambers, in March 2001, and three brothers, Frank Chambers, Bill Chambers and Elmer Chambers. Mr. Chambers was a retired employee of Beaunit Fibers and a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II and in the following countries: Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He was awarded the following medals during his service time: Eamet Campaign Medal with Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart, five Bronze Service Stars, American Defense Medal and Distinguished Unit Badge. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Van and Peggy Chambers and Fred and Kathy Chambers, all of Elizabethton; three sisters, Christine Chambers, Elizabethton, Ruby Glover, Bristol, Va., and Dorothy Chambers, Elizabethton; and a step-granddaughter, Julie Williams, Elizabethton. Chambers, 85, 232 Coal Chute Road, Elizabethton, who died Thursday, December 20, 2001, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, December 21, at Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, with the Rev. Fred Wade officiating. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 22, at Caldwell Springs Cemetery. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 9:55 a.m. Saturday for the graveside service. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel.
