CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - John N. "J.N." Chambers, 21 Nov 2002 ----¤¤¤---- John N. Chambers John N. "J.N." Chambers, 76, 130 Mill Pond Road, Elizabethton, died Thursday, November 21, 2002 in the Life Care Center. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Winfield A. and Delia Arnett Chambers. He was employed for several years as a salesman for Home Furnishings Company. He retired from North American Rayon Corporation. He had formerly served as a school board member of the 14th District of Carter County. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II. Mr. Chambers was a member of Dashiell Masonic Lodge #238, the Scottish Rite, Knoxville, and Jericho Temple, Kingsport. He was an honorary member of Hampton Masonic Lodge #750. He was a member of the Valley Forge Free Will Baptist Church. Mr. Chambers was preceded in death by three sisters, Cornthia Chambers, Laura Suess, and Viola Stevens, and two brothers, Ray Chambers and Howard Dugger. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Betty Lou Clark Chambers; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Lillie Johnson, Ethel Johnson, and June and Harold Telleen, all of Elizabethton, and one sister-in-law, Ruby Chambers, Elizabethton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. CHAMBERS -- Funeral services for John N. "J.N." Chambers, 76, 130 Mill Pond Road, Elizabethton, who died Thursday, November 21, 2002, will be conducted at 7 p.m. Saturday, November 23, 2002 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Randy Johnson and Rev. Jonas Revis officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, November 24, 2002 in Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 2:30 p.m. Sunday will be Mark Markland, Ricky Markland, Randy Markland, Jimmy Stevens, Charles Hodge, Phillip Shull, Buddy Rash, and Marvin "Buck" Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Harold Telleen, Ed Markland, Henry Jenkins, Bill Jenkins, Earl Ellis, George Green, Jr., Harold Estep, Donnie Carden, Jimmy Parr, Thurman Adams, Carl Roberson, Phillip Suess, W.A. Suess, Arlen Bailey, Tim Chambers, Clarence Perry, Will Blakely and John Allen. The family will receive friends following the funeral service Saturday night. Friends may also call at the residence.
