CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Mattie Martha Kinley Chambers, 22 Mar 2005 ----¤¤¤---- Mrs. Mattie Martha Kinley Chambers, 91, formerly of Coal Chute Road, Elizabethton, died Tuesday, March 22, 2005, at Life Care Center of Elizabethton following an extended illness. Mrs. Chambers was born December 19, 1913 in Washington County but had lived in Carter County for most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Robert and Mollie Martin Kinley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry F. Chambers, in 1970, three sisters, Bertha Whaley, Madline Frances and Edna Dunn, and two brothers, Andrew Kinley and Ralph Kinley. Mrs. Chambers was a homemaker and owner of Chamber's Grocery on Coal Chute Road. She was a member of Valley Forge Christian Church. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Harold "Dean" and Darlene Chambers and Kenneth "Buddy" and Susan Chambers, all of Elizabethton; a daughter and son-in-law, Vella and Jack Tester, Elizabethton; two sisters, Beulah Hampton, Elizabethton, and Helen Conley, Jonesborough; a brother, Dillard Kinley, Jonesborough; and grandchildren and spouses, Mike and Melinda Chambers, Steven Chambers and Christy Chambers, all of Elizabethton, Michelle Chambers, Johnson City, Jeff and Crystal Chambers, Jonesborough, Michelle and Jack McRee, Bristol, Va., Tiffani Renee Tester, Knoxville, and John Thomas Tester, Atlanta, Ga. Three great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive, including a special nephew and niece, Bill Hampton and Ruth Street. A special "Thank You" is extended to Very Special Friends that went the extra mile for our mother: Tammy Hammonds, Pam Park Miller, Barbara Nave, Janice Woodby, Jennifer Young, Debbie Johnson, Jessie Bush, Meribeth Price, Scarlet Gouge, Alice Martinez, Anneliese Heavner, Sandra Brock, Ann Bare, Carol Weaver, Dr. Jerry Gastineau, the staff of Life Care Center of Elizabethton and the special staff of South Hall. The funeral service for Mrs. Chambers will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 24, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with Mr. H. Clay Bailey and Mr. Mike Koruschak, ministers, officiating. Music will be under the direction of Joel Crisp and Gail Campbell. The graveside service and interment will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, March 25, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be grandsons and granddaughters: Jeff Chambers, Mike Chambers, Steve Chambers, John Tester, Michelle Chambers, Michelle McRee, Jack McRee, Christy Chambers and Tiffani Tester. Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Murray Jr., Bobby Deloach, Carme Lee Cates, Laura Deloach, Elmina Deloach, Ike and Peggy Nave, Eckert Street, Sharon Hampton, Gary and Patsy Johnson and Ethel Hayes. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service. Friends may also call at the home of a son, Dean Chambers, 353 Coal Chute Road, Elizabethton, at anytime. Those who plan to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 1:15 p.m. Friday to go in procession to the cemetery.
