Church 06/15/99 Joyce Maxine Church, 61, Saw Dust Trail, Roan Mountain, died Sunday, June 13, 1999, at Johnson City Medical Center Hospital. Mrs. Church was a native of Washington County and the daughter of Clara Roe Greer, Jonesborough, and the late David Greer. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Aileen Cooke. Mrs. Church was a member of the Roan Mountain First Baptist Church. Survivors, in addition to her mother, include her husband, Walter Frank "Jug" Church, of the home; a daughter, Denise Church, Elizabethton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Tony and Joyce Church, Elizabethton, and Frank and Marty Church, Roan Mountain; three sisters, Lucille Goodman and Phyllis Whitehead, both of Johnson City, and Linda Malone, Jonesborough; four brothers, David Greer, Chucky, Bill Greer and Roger Greer, both of Johnson City, and Freddie Greer, Jonesborough; and four grandchildren, Tyler Church and Derek Stanley, both of Elizabethton, and Bailee and Mallory Church, both of Roan Mountain. Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home, Newland, N.C., (828) 733-2121, is in charge of arrangements. CHURCH -- Funeral services for Joyce Maxine Church, 61, Saw Dust Trail, Roan Mountain, who died Sunday, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday from the Rhododendron Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Stout and Rev. Vickie Neese officiating. Music will be under the direction of Charlotte Smith. Interment will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Johnson-Roanview Cemetery. Active pallbearers, who are asked to meet at the funeral home at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday, will be W.O. Hampton, Clarence "Buckeye" Garland, Gene Mosley, Jack Johnson, Lawrence Roberts and Tim "Big T" McKinney. Honorary pallbearers will be friends and loved ones. The family will receive friends at the Rhododendron Chapel Tuesday evening from 5:30 p.m. to the service hour. Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home, Newland, N.C., is in charge of arrangements. [Note by Julia Williams Kodak]: Joyce Church's husband, Walter Frank Church, is the great-grandson of William F. and Cornelia Hardin Church Snider. William F. and Cornelia came to Shell Creek in 1882 and built a store and home there. His grandfather is Walter Frank Church b 08 Nov 1880 in North Carolina and died in 1960 in Roan Mountain and son of William and Cornelia.
