Mr. Clark was a native and lifelong resident of Carter County, and a son of the late Nat and Polly Simerly Clark. Mr. Clark was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Ruth Hill Clark, in 1987, by two sons, by three brothers: Sam Clark, Clyde Clark and Elmer Clark; and by three sisters: Lurlie Miller, Jay Clark and Ruby Loria. Mr. Clark was a retired employee with North American Rayon Corp. with 30 years of service. He served as a paratrooper with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Hopson Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. Survivors include six sons: Eddie Clark, Larry Clark, Gary Clark and Cecil Clark, all of Roan Mountain; Harold Clark and Stevie Clark, both of Elizabethton; two daughters: Judy Gouge, Unicoi; and Mina Chambers, Roan Mountain; two sisters: Juanita Good and Nora Roberts, both of Roan Mountain; 11 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a special friend, Donna Chambers, Roan Mountain. Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, is in charge of arrangements. CLARK -- Funeral services for Mr. Earl Clark, 88, 1093 Tiger Creek Road, Roan Mountain, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 11, 1999, at Hopson Chapel Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. Bob Davis and the Rev. Terry Jones officiating. Music will be by the Hopson Chapel Church Choir and Margaret Smith, soloist. Interment will follow in the Collins Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Wayne Hickman, Wayne Blevins, Kevin Blevins, June Chambers, Lester Simerly and Joe Orr. Honorary pallbearers will be Carl Blevins, Bill Street, Bill Simerly, Rob Hill, Eddie Julian, Terry Hyder, David Harrell, Tim Miller, Jamie Campbell and Charles Banner. To those who desire, memorials may be made to the Carter County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 776, Elizabethton, TN 37644. The family will receive friends at Hopson Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, Roan Mountain, from 6-9 p.m. Sunday. Friends may call other times at the residence of a daughter, Mina Chambers, 1096 Tiger Creek Road, Roan Mountain; or a son, Eddie Clark, 1093 Tiger Creek Road, Roan Mountain.
