CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Frances Calhoun, 5 Mar 1951 ----¤¤¤---- Obituary appeared in the Elizabethton Star dated Tuesday, March 6, 1951. Mrs. Frances Calhoun, 75 died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mike Peters, at Hampton, 11:40 am Monday, after a several months. She was a member of the Free Will Baptist Church for 50 years. Survivors are three daughters, Miss Jessie Calhoun of Hampton, Mrs. Sam Harrison of Shell Creek, and Mrs. Mike Peters of Hampton; three sons, Clarence Calhoun of Elizabethton, Oscar Calhoun of Hampton and Tate Calhoun of South Bend, Ind, three sisters and on brother, forty grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at Evergreen Church at 11 AM Wednesday with the Rev. Carl Osborne officiating. The body will be taken to the home of her sister, Mrs. Sam Harris at 3 PM today. Burial will be at Fork Mountain Cemetery in Vale, NC. Appalachian Funeral Home is in charge. Note: The above obit. was copied as it appeared in the Elizabethton Star. There are a couple of errors in this obituary. Grandma and Grandpa Calhoun had 2 daughters and 4 sons, not 3 daughters and 3 sons as the obit. states. There is no Miss Jessie Calhoun. It should have read Jeffie Calhoun of Hampton. The body was taken to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sam Harrison, not to the home of her sister, Mrs. Sam Harris as the obit. stated.
