CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Sirgus Cole, 4 Jan 2005 ----¤¤¤---- Sirgus Cole, 83, Margo Drive, Johnson City, died Tuesday, January 4, 2005, at his residence following an extended illness. Mr. Cole was a native of Avery County, N.C., and had lived in Carter County since 1959. He was a son of the late Elbert and Pettie Pritchard Cole. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James H. Cole, two sisters, Lela Hopson and Augusta Johnson, and four brothers, Lonnie, Lennie, Boyd and Dillard Cole. Mr. Cole was a member of Hunter First Baptist Church and the local Teamsters No. 549. He had retired as railroad section foreman for ET&WNC. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Artie Bell McKee Cole, of the home; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Tommy Cole, Harrisburg, N.C., Gary and Wanda Cole, Elizabethton, and Shirley Cole, Johnson City; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and five sisters, Lois Robinson, Johnson City, Zeppy Moffitt, Fall Branch, Ira Anders, Hall River, N.C., Betty Jenkins, Johnson City, and Elizabeth Daniels and Norma Isaacs, both of Newland, N.C. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Artie Bell McKee Cole, of the home; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Tommy Cole, Harrisburg, N.C., Gary and Wanda Cole, Elizabethton, and Shirley Cole, Johnson City; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and five sisters, Lois Robinson, Johnson City, Zeppy Moffitt, Fall Branch, Ira Anders, Hall River, N.C., Betty Jenkins, Johnson City, and Elizabeth Daniels and Norma Isaacs, both of Newland, N.C. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 5, in the Riverside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Potter officiating. Music will be under the direction of Ernie Peters. The graveside service and interment will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 6, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the service. Friends may also call at the residence, Margo Drive, Johnson City. Active pallbearers will be Lee Cole, Keith Cole, James Cole Jr., William Cole, Benjamin Clark and Fred Calhoun. Honorary pallbearers will be Roger Hughes, Billy Scott, Don Henley, Tommy Humphrey, Harold Luttrell and Jack Davis.
