CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Ruby Vance Cordell, 9 Jul 2003 ----¤¤¤---- Ruby V. Cordell Mrs. Ruby Vance Cordell, 80, formerly of Second Street, Hampton, and the Life Care Center of Elizabethton, died Wednesday, July 9, 2003 in the Johnson City Medical Center Hospital following a brief illness. A native of Carter County, she had lived in Ohio for thirty years and returned to Hampton, in 1986. She was the daughter of the late Rev. William B. and Cordelia Richardson Vance. She was a homemaker and of the Freewill Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hall Cordell in 1992; four brothers, Roy Vance, Henry Vance, Billy Vance and Paul Vance, and four sisters, Edith Meritt, Bertha Tinkle, Gladys Vance and Lola Johnson. Survivors include two sons, R. L. Street, of Toronto, Ohio, and Gerald Street, of Londonderry, NH; one step-son, Johnny Cordell, of Paynesville, Ohio; two step-daughters, Emmazetta Constable, of Madison, Ohio, and Hatti Sabo, of Paynesville, Ohio; one brother, Jack Vance, of Hampton, and a special niece, Jean Shell, of Roan Mountain; nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren and several other nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home. CORDELL -- Funeral services for Mrs. Ruby Vance Cordell, 80, formerly of Second Street, Hampton, who died Wednesday, July 9, 2003 will be conducted at 8 p.m. Saturday, July 12, 2003 in the Rhododendron Chapel of Hathaway-Percy Funeral Home, Roan Mountain, with Rev. Gary Perkins officiating. Music will be under the direction of The Danny Cooke Family. The family will receive friends at the Rhododendron Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 13, 2003 in the Richardson Cemetery, Upper Shell Creek Community, Roan Mountain. Active pallbearers will be selected from the family. Honorary pallbearer will be Shaffer Norris. Everyone will meet at the Rhododendron Chapel at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday to go in procession to the cemetery. To those who desire, memorials may be made to the charity of their choice.
