Cornett James H. Cornett, 72, 143 Twin Oaks Drive, Jonesborough, died Tuesday, December 12, 2000, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center Hospital following a brief illness. Mr. Cornett was a native of Carter County and the son of the late George Russell and Vada Joines Cornett. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Clifford Cornett, Leonard Cornett and George Cornett Jr. Mr. Cornett was retired from J.I. Cornett Construction Company as a carpenter and was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and the Captain Lynn H. Folsom VFW Post #2166. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served in the U.S. Army. Survivors include three sisters, Irene Nave, Elizabethton, Mary Sanders, Limestone, and Ruth Morelock, Elizabethton. Cornett, 72, 143 Twin Oaks Drive, Jonesborough, who died Tuesday, December 12, 2000, will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, December 14, at Mountain Home National Cemetery with the Rev. Randy Johnson officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the Captain Lynn H. Folsom VFW Post #2166. Honorary pallbearers will be Cliff Sanders, Thurman Leach and Tommy Decker. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 9:55 a.m. Thursday for the graveside services. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Fireside Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home.
