Cox John Sidney Cox, 86, 426 Field Road, Elizabethton, died Monday, July 10, 2000, at Johnson City Medical Center. Mr. Cox was a native of Carter County and a son of the late Samuel D. and Vista Barnett Cox. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Alverta Mae Northern Cox, in 1995, and a son, David Lee Cox, in 1989. Mr. Cox was a retired employee of U.S. Steel, Gary, Ind. He was a member of the Hunter First Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, John L. Cox, of the home; a sister, Evelyn Joyce Cox, Elizabethton; two brothers, Walter Cox, Elizabethton, and James Cox, Bristol; five grandchildren, Kimberly Flotho, Springfield, Tenn., Heith Cox, Detroit, Mich., Sidney Cox and Denise Cox, both of Bristol, and Alicia Cox, Fairfield, Ohio; and three great-granddaughters, Donita Taylor Brown, Donielle Taylor and Deidree Taylor. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. COX -- Funeral services for John Sidney Cox, 86, 426 Field Road, Elizabethton, who died Monday, July 10, 2000, will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Rev. Burl Garland and Dr. Dennis Deese officiating. Interment will be at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers, who are requested to assemble at the funeral home at 2:55 p.m. Wednesday, will be Robert Brown, Kenneth Taylor, Ben Clark, Wayne Shell, Maurice Shell, Sidney Cox and Heith Cox. Honorary pallbearers will be Adam Flotho, Dennis Blackburn, Claude Puckett, Fred Taylor and the Senior Men's Sunday School Class of Hunter First Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
