CARTER COUNTY, TN - OBITUARIES - Walter Kenneth Cox, 7 Nov 2002 ----¤¤¤---- Walter K. Cox Walter Kenneth Cox, 82, 613 West G Street, Elizabethton, died Thursday, November 7, 2002, at his residence. Mr. Cox was a native of Roan Mountain and a son of the late Samuel Davis and Vista Barnett Cox. He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Alexandria Horton, two sisters, Dorothy Campbell and Eva Johnson, and two brothers, Clifford Cox and John Cox. Mr. Cox was a 1942 graduate of Elizabethton High School where he played football. He was a retired employee of the Elizabethton Post Office, having retired in 1987 after 31 years of service. He was a City Carrier. Mr. Cox was in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of First Christian Church of Elizabethton and a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Alma Ruth Campbell Cox; three daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Devoid Wright, Piney Flats, Jeanna and Randy Shields and Jane and John Oakley, all of Elizabethton; a brother, James Cox, Bristol; a sister, E. Joyce Cox, Elizabethton; and nine grandchildren, Tera Wright, Megan Wright, Chelsea Wright, Heather Shields, Holly Shields, Hayley Shields, Hunter Shields, Elizabeth Oakley and Olivia Oakley. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. COX -- Funeral services for Walter Kenneth Cox, 82, 613 West G Street, Elizabethton, who died Thursday, November 7, 2002, will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 9, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Donald B. Marshall officiating. Interment will be at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Devoid Wright, Randy Shields, Hunter Shields, John Oakley, Leonard Peters and Glen Cates. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:30 a.m. until the service hour at 1 p.m. Saturday. Friends may also call at the residence.
