Crain Ethel M. Crain, 89, formerly of Route 1, Roan Mountain, died Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at Sycamore Shoals Hospital following an extended illness. Mrs. Crain was a native of Carter County and the daughter of the late Waites and Julie Gouge Barnett. She was also preceded in death by her husband, William A. Crain, June 22, 1982, two brothers, Norman Barnett and Harland Barnett, two sons, Vernon Crain and Billy Crain, a grandson, Chad Crain, and a granddaughter, Debbie Crain. Mrs. Crain was a member of Burbank Free Will Baptist Church and was a homemaker. Survivors include two sons, Delaney Crain, Elizabethton, and Bob Crain, Florence, S.C.; two daughters, Charlotte Hunt, Morganton, N.C., and Ruth Franklin, Newland, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Herman Barnett, Roan Mountain; and two sisters, Mable Stocton, Roan Mountain, and Dorothy Patton, Elk Park N.C. Crain, 89, formerly of Route 1, Roan Mountain, who died Wednesday, April 3, 2002, will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, April 5, at Burbank Free Will Baptist Church with the Rev. John Vance, the Rev. Richard Blevins and the Rev. Fred Wade officiating. Music will be under the direction of Burbank Free Will Baptist Church. Graveside services and interment will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 6, at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be grandsons, Kelly Crain, Grady Hill, Tony Bowery, Dean Jones, Jeff Hunt, Mark Byrd, Brandon Powell and Aaron Powell. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Burbank Free Will Baptist Church and the Staff of Ivy Hall Nursing Home. Everyone will meet at the cemetery at 10:55 a.m. Saturday for the graveside service. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Burbank Free Will Baptist Church. Friends may also call at the residence, Route 1, Roan Mountain (Burbank Community), or at the residence of a son, Delaney Crain, 113 Coal Chute Road, Elizabethton, at any time.
