Cardwell Mrs. Ruby Nave Cardwell, 91, 3080 Wood Thrush Drive, Memphis, formerly of 308 East I Street, Elizabethton, died Saturday, March 24, 2001, at Shelby Pines Rehabilitation Center, Memphis. Mrs. Cardwell was a native of Carter County and a daughter of the late Porter B. and Leila Johnson Nave. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Fred C. Nave. Mrs. Cardwell moved to Memphis after the death of her husband, Earnest M. Cardwell, former Postmaster of Elizabethton, who died January 10, 1981. Mrs. Cardwell had been a member of First Baptist Church of Elizabethton since she was 12 years of age. She was active in the W.M.U. and in the Training Union, and served as counselor of the Young Woman's Auxiliary of the church for several years and was a member of the adult choir for 25 years. She was also active in the Mission Prayer Group and served as Flowers Chairman of the church for 10 years before moving to Memphis. While residing in Memphis, she attended the Raleigh Baptist Church. She was a past member of the Garden Study Club. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Joseph R. Joyce, Memphis; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Joyce Fisher, Knoxville; a grandson, Robert Martin Joyce, Memphis; and a great-grandson, Allen Joyce, Memphis. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. CARDWELL -- Funeral services for Mrs. Ruby Nave Cardwell, 91, 3080 Wood Thrush Drive, Memphis, formerly of 308 East I Street, Elizabethton, who died Saturday, March 24, 2001, will be conducted at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, at First Baptist Church of Elizabethton with the Rev. Brent Seals officiating. John Bunn, soloist, and Mrs. Melody Sparks, organist, will provide the music. Interment will be at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be contacted. Honorary pallbearers will be James Kyle Buck, Alphas Anderson, Robert Meredith, Eston Treadway, John L. Bowers, Frank Baker, Walter Akers, Dr. Harold Lingerfelt, Claude Isaacs, Fred Bryan Nave and Paul Pless. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church. Friends may call at the funeral home any time Tuesday. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
